On May 28th 2015, a team from Kenya Markets Trust met with Mr. Adan Mohammed, Cabinet Secretary for Industrialization and Enterprise Development who is also the Acting Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.

The team introduced KMT and our current work in the Livestock Sector and shared solicited feedback on the Draft Kenya Veterinary Policy.The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries has requested a wide range of stakeholders to review the Draft Policy in recognition that veterinary services are critical to the development of the livestock sector in enhancing productivity of livestock as well as promoting trade in livestock and livestock products. The policy provides a framework for safeguarding animal life, health and welfare as well as livestock production for food security and economic development.KMT has offered to support the State Department of Livestock to convene key stakeholders in a roundtable discussion on the Draft Policy so as to realize an industry-driven and evidence-based policy review to strengthen the Draft Kenya Veterinary Policy. In addition, KMT has offered to support the Ministry in engaging the private sector in key areas of inclusive economic growth in the livestock sector.
